‘Merchant seafarers are at the very heart of their work, working in ports around the world where the need is greatest. Their network of chaplains come alongside seafarers on ships and in ports to provide Christian ministry, welfare care and practical support.’
Sailors’ Society came to us to transform their new office, an old conservative club, into a welcoming, light space for their staff, clients and trustees to enjoy working in. The reception The designs focal point was to incorporate touches towards the sea and sailing without the theme being over powering. This included a feature magnetic map within the ground floor open plan area to allow staff to locate the Chaplains across the globe.
The first floor family ‘kitchen’ was designed to be a relaxing environment to break away from the working day, to grab a coffee, read a book or have lunch with fellow colleagues. A secret door, hidden within a reclaimed oak wall, provides a passage to a quiet room which allows for weekly prayer meetings.
