MoDA Offices – Calgary

MoDA Offices – Calgary
SAGTCO

MoDA has designed a new office space for their Calgary-based architecture studio.

We first spotted the Lacey Court building about a decade ago and dreamed of maybe one day having an architecture office there. In the summer of 2015 that dream became a reality when a ‘for lease’ sign was noticed in the window. Three months (and a lot of sweat equity) later MoDA officially opened its doors in this wonderful little hidden gem of a building.

Situated in the heart of Calgary’s Beltline and facing Central Memorial Park, Lacey Court was built in 1956 and was first occupied by J. Stevenson & Associates, the architect that designed it. Since then it’s been home to the National Film Board of Canada, the Law Society of Alberta and the Thai Consulate, among other tenants. Our desire was to bring it full circle and strip the space back to its original minimal bones, creating an open, airy and light studio space that would accommodate 12-14 people. The white washed walls and ceiling provide a blank canvas for creativity and are contrasted by black chalkboard and custom designed and built Baltic birch millwork. With windows on three sides, the office is continually flooded with natural light, contributing to the well-being and creativity of the team.
